What to Expect at Your First Appointment and Your Treatment Plan

First Meeting – Complimentary Full 30 -45 Minute Consultation

This first visit involves a thorough examination by Dr. Berka to determine your specific needs, options and any concerns. A panorex X-ray of the teeth and jaws as well as digital photographs of the teeth and smile are typically taken. Milton Orthodontics continues to offer the latest interactive IACT® Patient Education system. Extremely popular amongst patients, this computer technology provides detailed videos explaining each procedure and shows how orthodontic treatment will transform your smile.

Diagnostic Records

Once you are ready for orthodontic treatment the next step is to gather diagnostic records. This appointment is 30-40 minutes in length. Digital photos of the teeth and face are taken. X-rays to determine positioning of the teeth, jaws, cranial structures as well as accurate models of your teeth are obtained. Dr Berka uses these diagnostic records to formulate and finalize your orthodontic treatment plan. Once these records are reviewed, there may be a need to schedule another consultation appointment to finalize the details of your specific orthodontic treatment plan.

Adding On Braces

The appointment when you receive your braces will be approximately 40 minutes to 2 hours long. Depending on your specific situation, we may just start with upper braces or add both upper and lower braces together. After adding your braces, you will also be instructed on how to keep your teeth clean and the appropriate diet restrictions. You will receive your electric toothbrush by Oral B and a kit of supplies (smaller brushes, wax, floss) at this visit.

Adjustment Appointments

Once your braces are added you are seen on a regular basis every 6-8 weeks for adjustments. These visits will last approximately 20-30 minutes. At these visits your wires may be changed or extra components may be added to your braces (ex. power chain or elastics) to keep your teeth moving to their final positions.
