We provide the following services:
Complimentary Full 30 -45 minute Consultation:
This first visit involves a thorough examination by Dr. Berka to determine your specific needs, options and any concerns. A panorex X-ray of the teeth and jaws is typically taken. Milton Orthodontics continues to offer the latest interactive IACT® Patient Education system. Extremely popular amongst patients, this computer technology provides detailed videos explaining each procedure and shows how orthodontic treatment will transform your smile.
If orthodontic treatment is recommended, we will explain:
* The ideal time to start treatment
* The orthodontic treatment plan
* Approximate length of treatment
* Different types of braces
* Continuing appointments
* Cost of the treatment
* Payment plans and options
* Insurance coverage
We encourage you to ask many questions at this visit. Orthodontic treatment proceeds smoothly when you are properly informed. Dr. Berka and her staff are here to answer any and all questions.
If you are not ready for orthodontic treatment (ex. not enough permanent teeth or growth considerations) we will place you on our recall list. Potential future orthodontic and/or current recommendations will be explained to you in detail. Our office will contact you at the appropriate time to schedule another consultation appointment.
Diagnostic Records:
Once you are ready for orthodontic treatment the next step is to gather diagnostic records. This appointment is 30-40 minutes in length. Digital photos of the teeth and face are taken. X-rays to determine positioning of the teeth, jaws, cranial structures as well as accurate models of your teeth are obtained. Dr Berka uses these diagnostic records to formulate and finalize your orthodontic treatment plan. Once these records are reviewed, there may be a need to schedule another consultation appointment to finalize the details of your specific orthodontic treatment plan.
Adding Your Braces:
The appointment when you receive your braces will be approximately 1-2 hours long. Depending on your specific situation, we may just start with upper braces or add both upper and lower braces together. You will also be instructed on how to keep your teeth clean and the appropriate diet restrictions. You will receive your electiric toothbrush by Oral B and a kit of supplies (smaller brushes, wax, floss) at this visit.
Adustments:
Once your braces are added you are seen on a regular basis every 6-8 weeks for adjustments. These visits will last approximately 20 minutes for children and 30 minutes for adults. At these visits your wires may be changed or extra components may be added to your braces (ex. power chain or elastics) to keep your teeth moving to their final positions.
Emergencies:
If you have an emergency during regular office we ask that you call our office to make an appointment. We will ensure to see you as soon as possible. If you have an emergency after hours, we have an after hours emergency service to deal with your emergency.
Retention
Once your braces are removed, fixed and/or removable retainers are placed. Depending on your needs, these retainers will be worn for a specified amount of time. Patients that have had treatment in this office are covered for a lifetime of retention. This means that you can come to our office anytime after your orthodontic treatment is completed to monitor your retainer or address any questions or concerns.
